Who can submit an idea?

Anyone. Collaboration across different disciplines is encouraged. We are especially encouraging student and professional artists, architects, planners, landscape architects, transit engineers, economists, real estate developers, public advocacy groups, filmmakers and entertainment professionals. Submissions will be accepted from both individuals and teams.

What should I submit?

Think big! We will happily accept images, photo simulations, renderings, digital models, videos, animations, illustrated narration, papers, and other publications and multimedia.

New Ideas: Show us new ways of thinking about rail transit. No idea is too big, too novel or too out there.
Existing Projects and Designs: Submissions can use existing and innovative designs and ideas to demonstrate how rail-oriented design and urban planning can be successfully implemented in Kansas City. Some examples: train stations built under water, new towns developed around transit stops, or even interactive information kiosks.

Documentaries: Show us how rail transit has transformed other places in the world and how those transformations can inform Kansas City’s future.

Designs for Union Station: Submissions must be an original design for Kansas City’s Union Station. The design must represent a multi-modal (streetcar, commuter rail, high speed rail, etc.) transit center in the heart of the city.

How do I submit materials?

Step 1: You will need to submit a project title and a summary of your idea (maximum 250 words). This summary will be included as part of the exhibition if your idea is selected.

Can I submit an idea I had for another project?

Submissions can be new content specifically created for the purpose of this Call for Ideas or older content modified and edited to be applicable to our submission context and specifications.

What are the prizes?

A selection of entries will be displayed on the Transform Kansas City website and/or in the Transform Kansas City exhibition in Kansas City’s Union Station, currently scheduled to run for the month of October 2013. However, this exhibition will provide a big canvas for anybody interested to showcase their ideas and establish their voices and opinions.

This is a non-juried Call for Ideas. There will be no ranking of submissions and no prizes will be awarded.

Do I have to have an idea that’s specific to Kansas City?

No, but original ideas for Kansas City are welcomed and encouraged. Your idea should at least relate to the Kansas City situation, and please keep in mind that this Call for Ideas is meant to be visionary.

Do I have to live in Kansas City?
